I found a local credit union, and was wondering if anyone here doing business with Bethpage Credit Union. It seems like they have good deals on credit cards, etc. .

Reply: BFCU is awesome. However you have to *swear* on the application that you live or worship in Nassau or Suffolk Counties. So, be careful what you sign if you don't actually live there.
BFCU are blood sucking vultures. I have been with them for more than 20 years and they couldnt give a sh*t that i lost my job.
out of state banks I have been with for less than 2 years were happy to negotiate setlements with me but BFCU demanded 100% payment in full and sued me.
Stay away from them, they are bad news.

Reply: I have been banking with BFCU for 8 years and LOVE them. We have had 4 loans with them…auto, boat, loc, etc. They have great rates and will do banking through the mail and over net. very convenient.
In 2003 I had a baby and was on maternity leave. My husbands business went dead..we had very little money coming in, which of course leads to some things not getting paid. We had a $ 700 per month car payment with BFCU that we stopped paying for 3 months b/c the mortgage and other stuff was more important. BFCU called us and after we explained our situation they gave us an additional 3 month reprieve. Then they said the loan would resume as normal and just be extended by 6 months for the payments we hadn't made. This was amazing…any other bank would have repoed the car. We just sent a goodwill letter to them asking for those latenesses to be removed. Unfortunately the first 3 months stayed as 30 days late. Anyway..we will always stay with BFCU. They know good people fall on hard times.
I have to differ with you on this. I fell on hard times as well and BFCU was no help at all. their attitude was pay in full or be refered to collection. i am now in a nasty lawsuit with them.
Hmmm maybe I'll think twice about joining. They just opened a branch near me in Lynbrook.

Reply:QUOTEA friend has had an ongoing problem w/them – they will not close his credit card out. He canceled years ago, some charge got renewed (subscription of some sort) and they honored it.
So if you want a CC for life, this is the way to go.
I guess I am skipping this CU even though it is not so far from me. Thanks for your input:)

Reply:Well, my parents live in LI…so I can join with no problem, but I just called them to see what CRA they pull, the rep told me all three. I guess I'm out of luck if that's the case…
Reply:I think you have to live on Long Island or belong to one of their SEGs to join.
